Why should I install a security door in my home?

Many homeowners and businesses desire improved security, better ventilation (keeping doors open while still secure), increased home value, and protection from insects and the weather.

What’s the difference between a regular screen door and a “security door”?

A “security door” is defined as a door that passes Australian Standards (AS5039 and AS5041). To meet these standards, the door must pass stringent tests of the strength of all components, including the frame, mesh and lock. All “security doors” must also be fitted with a three-point locking system (triple lock). A three-point system engages the door at three separate points, typically the top, middle, and bottom of the door frame. Whereas “screen doors” do not meet the same certification requirements and are often not fitted with triple locks or premium strength materials.

What types of security doors are there (hinged, sliding, double, with pet-door etc)?

How long does installation take, and what’s the process?

The installation of each security door typically takes around 2-4 hours depending on the configuration.

What materials should I look for (mesh, frame, hinges, locks) given WA’s climate?

Because of coastal and salty air conditions in WA, using corrosion-resistant 316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh is recommended. However, Alu-Gard perforated aluminium security doors are also great for coastal applications as they’re made mainly of aluminium and powder-coated to a very high standard.

Do security doors in WA need to meet specific Australian Standards? Which ones?

Yes, it’s important to select security doors that meet or exceed relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS 5039, AS 5040-1, AS 5041) for forced‐entry resistance.

Yes, given that security doors are part of home safety, using a company with the appropriate licensing is recommended. Yes, our security doors allow the main door to be open while the security door provides the barrier, allowing ventilation and insect protection.

If the existing door frame is weak or the opening non-standard, additional costs or reinforcements may be needed.

What about sliding security doors versus hinged doors, are there trade-offs?

Sliding security doors are best for saving space and maximising natural light, while hinged doors are better for a more traditional look.

If I already have a security door, can it be serviced / parts replaced rather than replacing full door?
